Fergus McCaffrey is pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings and works on paper by innovative Japanese artist and Gutai founder Jiro Yoshihara (1905–1972), on view at the gallery’s Tokyo location beginning June 29, 2019. As the founder of the Gutai Art Association, the impact that Yoshihara had on the Japanese postwar art scene is well recognized, and in examining the artist’s legacy, Jiro Yoshihara: The Persistence of Form explores one of his most influential compositions and a subject he studied closely for several decades: the circle.
