100-Year Chronicle of Uniforms in Japan

Yayoi Museum
Finished

Artists

Hisashi Eguchi, Nobuyuki Mori, Mitsue Aoki, Mihona Fujii, Machiko Kyo et al.
Since adopting Western-style school uniforms a century ago, Japan has made them fixtures of student culture. Their varieties include the long skirts of the 1980s, the checker patterned miniskirts of the 1990s, and a range of colors and designs in the 2000s. They have become a part of the pop culture, and even drawn international attention. This exhibition introduces an array of Japanese school uniform designs from the Taisho, Showa, and Heisei eras with illustrations by artists including Mitsue Aoki, Rei Kato, and Kina Kazuharu.
