Artists

Anthony Miler
The first exhibition in Japan by the artist Anthony Miler, who is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. In his works, Miler applies his own particular blend of liquid and powder pigments to minimal and architectural lines, the resulting image being birdlike forms in which an “eye” expresses a tranquil, formal beauty. The exhibition will showcase 23 new works created especially for the occasion.

Miler received his MFA from The City College of New York in 2008. During the initial stages of his career, he was influenced by CoBrA, the avant-garde artist group that was active in post-war Europe. He later created works, including portraits, using bold strokes similar to those of the neo-expressionists. In recent years, his style has undergone a further dramatic transformation. A motif that features a symbolic “eye” has become the sole focus in terms of subject matter, and the works themselves are clean and meditative, created using Miler’s unique blend of liquid and powder pigments.
