Keita Tatsuguchi
Tatsuguchi Keita uses modern motifs such as girls wearing maid’s clothing, weaving mysterious elements of myths passed on from ancient times into a unique composition and creating a sense of fine detail that evokes a distinctive presence. Tatsuguchi’s high level of skill as a Japanese painter that makes this all possible is noteworthy, as the viewer cannot help but stare at the intricate details of the eyes drawn in his work, not to mention the outlines and curves depicting strands of hair where both fullness and tension coexist. For instance, the texture of the blackness brought about using charcoal appears glossy in some areas, but is elsewhere transposed into the feeling of floating within the depictions of rising smoke. Tatsuguchi uses his brush strokes to recreate a variety of moods that speak of his tested maturity, without going too far into the information presented by color. His work presses onwards into his own ever-deepening world, while remaining firmly ensconced in the elements found in classical Japanese paintings. The space filled with only his most recent works from large-scale pieces to drawings brings to the visitor a tension accompanied by the refreshing sense of inexperience, as if their awareness of sensitivity was being pierced by a painless, thin needle… yet the fact is that in some sense, this is intended to be an inspiring scene, one close to the heart.
