Ryo Shinagawa references and reinterprets styles, materials, ideas, and patterns of classical Japanese art movements such as Yamato-e and the Rimpa and Kanno Schools while adding elements of contemporary art. He strives to create Nihonga paintings that only a Japanese person living today could.
