Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) was one of France’s most famous actresses. She captivated the world with her beautiful voice and acting and with her lavish and glamorous personal life. This exhibition, the first of its kind in Japan, includes paintings, photos, stage costumes, and accessories, as well as the works of Alphonse Mucha and René Lalique, whose talent Bernhardt discovered. They show Bernhardt the actress while also revealing the other wide-ranging activities she engaged in, which included being a businesswoman and sculptor and painter.
*Sarah Bernhardt’s birth year is under debate; however, this exhibition accepts the year 1844.*
