Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) has evolved together with the modernization of Japan. This exhibition features distinctive nihonga artists including Tamako Kataoka, whose first solo exhibition was held at this museum. Presented here are approximately 60 masterworks by innovators of Japanese-style painting such as Yukihiko Yasuda, Hoshun Yamaguchi, Toyoshiro Fukuda, Shoko Uemura, Fuku Shoji, Setsu Asakura, and Aguri Uchida, through which the locus of their quest for materials and themes are explored together with the diversity and profundity of their expressions.
