Gallery House Maya
Finished

Artists

Takehiro Karube
Gallery House Maya presents new paintings while Maya 2 features original illustrations from the picture book “Himitsu Dakara Ne” (It’s a Secret).

“Yamapikarya” means “what shines on the mountains” in the slang of Nishi-Iriomoto Island. It was said that in ancient times there was a thing that shone on the far side of the mountains, but people were unable to confirm what it was. When the Iriomote mountain cat was discovered in 1965, it was said to be the “Yamapikarya.” Karube’s works portray these wild cats and other presences in the nature of the island.
