Yozo Hamaguchi
This exhibition introduces the young Parisian period of Yozo Hamaguchi, one of the most famous etchings artists of the 20th century. In 1930, Hamaguchi dropped out of the engraving course at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts after two years and headed for France. He exhibited his oil paintings at the Paris Salon for a while, but gradually lost interest in painting large oil paintings and focused on small works and watercolors. Most of his works were lost during the nine years before he was forced to return to Japan due to the war. However, the mysterious etchings he completed after the war when he was over 40 years old, must have been the fruit of the ideals he had nurtured in the international art city.

In this exhibition, about 30 etchings and three small guaches from his time in Paris will be specially exhibited, and interviews with the artist and other materials will be used to explore those days.
