Hachinohe Art Museum’s inaugural event “Gift, Gift” takes as its point of departure the Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival with an exhibition and project that looks at the spirit of “gifts” through art. Eleven contemporary artists present works of installation art, ukiyo-e, photography, film, ceramics, music, architecture, and more. Searching for hints about what kinds of “gifts” society might produce that demonstrate a different richness than the values it has sought out before, the show looks to plant the seeds for a “Hachinohe 100 Years from now” rooted in the “gifts” unique to this area.
