A territory is the territory of a living creature. It is the field where they get food to eat and live their daily lives with their friends and partners, and sometimes it is something that they protect and take with their lives. The word “territory” gives us a sense of the sharpness with which the lives of living creatures are at stake and the stubbornness with which they reject others.

During its four-year absence, the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art left its territory as a museum and entered various areas in the prefecture to hold three art spot projects. The culmination of this project, the exhibition “Soft Territory: Encounters of Interactions,” features 12 young artists with ties to Shiga, looking at what is created in the encounters of relationships, and exploring the nature of a soft and gentle territory.
