Collection Highlight (1): “Outstanding work from Japan and abroad that offer a perspective on the trend of modern and contemporary art”
The Fukuoka City Museum of Art has a policy of collecting “outstanding work of modern and contemporary art from Japan and abroad that offers a vision of the trends in modern and contemporary art.” This section introduces eight of the museum’s representative work from the collection based on this policy.

Collection Highlight 2: Reconsidering the Gender Balance in Collections and Exhibitions
The theme of Yinka Shonibare CBE’s “Woman Releasing Cherry Blossoms,” which was unveiled at the museum’s reopening and added to the collection, is women’s empowerment. In the background of this exhibition is the reality that gender inequality, including employment opportunities, still persists in the world and in Japan. The museum’s collection and exhibition activities are not unrelated.
This exhibition will focus on the works of female artists and organize the exhibition around their works.
