Kazuo Yagi: The Photographs of a Ceramicist

The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto
Finished

Artists

Kazuo Yagi
Yagi Kazuo was a leading figure in the postwar ceramic world who was affiliated with Sodeisha, a collective of avant-garde potters. His work has been introduced in a variety of exhibitions over the years, including Yagi Kazuo – A Retrospective, which traveled around Japan in 2004 and 2005. However, the fact Yagi was also an ambitious photographer in the early 1960s is much less widely known. The enormous number of photographs that Yagi took vividly convey his gentle, humorous, and witty attitude toward his subjects based on his experiences as a ceramicist. This exhibit introduces this unknown side of Yagi Kazuo through some 90 of his photographic works.
