A solo exhibition by ceramic artist Keita Matsunaga, born in 1986 in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture to ceramic artist parents. After graduating from university, Matsunaga joined the Tajimi Ceramic Design Institute in 2013 and then the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Craft Workshop. He is currently working in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture.
Matsunaga, who majored in architecture at university, has an architectural approach in the way he perceives his objects: he uses a method of making plaster molds by pressing unrefined clay onto plaster molds that he has made based on CAD drawings. The surface of the plaster mold is left untouched, and his works range from objets d’art to tea bowls, sake cups, flower vases, and tableware. He also uses techniques such as baking lacquer on the surface of the work, using transfer sheets and casting to create a unique world.
This is Matsunaga’s second exhibition at the garden, following his first solo show in 2020.
