Komako Sakai is a picture book artist known for her works such as “Yoru Kuma” and “Friday Sugar Girl” (both published by Kaisei-sha). Her delicate depictions of children, animals, and scenes, as well as her poetic writing that resonates with the pictures, have attracted many people. Her work has been highly acclaimed overseas, including a gold medal at the Bratislava World Picture Book Original Drawing Exhibition and the Silver Stone Brush Award in the Netherlands.
This exhibition is Komako Sakai’s first full-fledged solo exhibition and features approximately 250 original paintings from over 20 picture books published to date. The exhibition space will be divided into three sections based on keywords such as “secret,” “flap,” “darkness,” and “children.” In the exhibition space, there will be images and sounds of the area around Sakai’s studio in the mountains where she works, as well as small toys and objects that he cherishes. This is an exhibition that offers a new experience of encountering pictures and words while leisurely walking through the forest and the city.
The flyers, posters, and catalog are designed by Cozfish (Shin Sobue + Yaou Fujii), who also designed the book for “Sugar Girl on Friday” (Kaisei-sha).
