This exhibition will feature the popular series entitled “Earthly Flowers, Heavenly Colors” and “Flower Addict” from Mika Ninagawa’s signature “flower” photography.
Ninagawa’s work attracts people with its unique colors and fantastic worldview. The flood of vivid colors has been called “earthly flowers, heavenly colors” by art critic Midori Matsui (Mika Ninagawa: Earthly Flowers, Heavenly Colors, catalog, Asahi Shimbun, 2008). The exhibition asks the viewer to consider not only the beauty found in nature, but also the thoughts and desires of people embedded in man-made objects, and the beauty of the world.
In addition, “Flower Addict” is a series of photographs of the vivid colors and appearance of white chrysanthemums that have absorbed colored water. In this work, there is a strong desire of human beings to remake the world as they see fit, but at the same time, there is a captivating beauty and luster that transcends this desire.
