The Artist in School program is a new art education program in which artists are sent to elementary and junior high schools in the city as instructors to give special classes during art and arts & crafts classes. The museum has been coordinating this program since it first opened, and this year marks its 15th.
This time, Noriko Abe (artist) will be the lecturer, and three classes of 6th graders from Namiki Elementary School in Kawaguchi will work together to create artwork. The theme of the five-session arts & crafts class is “Finding with Lines,” and the students will be challenged to draw lines and work with art knives, a technique used by the instructor. The goal is for each child to find and express his or her own unique shape created from simple lines.
The results of this class, along with the instructor’s work, will be presented in an exhibition at the gallery.
