Akiko Ikeuchi
This is Akiko Ikeuchi's first solo exhibition at our museum. Ikeuchi connects silk threads into belt-like or spindle-shaped forms and spreads them into the space, thus incorporating the surrounding space into the artwork. While being very minimal and delicate, the artworks made solely with silk threads show diverse engagement with the exterior motifs, such as historical and cultural aspects behind the silk thread as a material or the characteristics of the exhibition space. Active since 1980s, Ikeuchi has exhibited her works at museums like The Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, in group exhibition at The National Art Center in Tokyo or Niigata's Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale.

This time, the artist uses the exhibition space boldly, in which she presents works that are close to on-the-spot creation. Ikeuchi researched the museum and its surroundings prior to this exhibition in order to understand its characteristics and to create a unique space, with her own hands. This, perhaps, will become a unique encounter with a soft yet a powerful world.
