Genichiro Inokuma
Genichiro Inokuma (1902-93) immigrated to the United States at the age of 52 and lived in New York for about 20 years. New York, where new things were being born one after another and the city was full of vitality, suited Inokuma's temperament perfectly, and he was able to make a new start as a painter there.

Abstract Expressionism began to flourish in the U.S. in the 1940s, followed by Minimal Art, Pop Art, Performance Art, Land Art, and other new forms of artistic expression. Inokuma visited museums and galleries on a daily basis and was actively exposed to new things. This must have influenced Inokuma's own artistic activities. In fact, his style of painting shifted from figurative to abstract when he moved to the U.S., and it continued to change during his stay. In this exhibition, along with Genichiro Inokuma's work from his time in New York, posters and invitations to exhibitions by other artists who were active at the same time are on display. These were acquired by Genichiro Inokuma in New York and are now in his collection.
