I Can’t Give Up Hope: The Art of Tabe Mitsuko

Fukuoka Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Mitsuko Tabe
Mitsuko Tabe (born in 1933) has been a leader of women artists and the postwar art scene in Fukuoka. Her artworks, born of her experiences and daily thoughts, continue to inspire viewers today. Her major works include "Placard," created in response to the social issues of its time, and "Artificial Placenta," which has gained attention in recent years as an early work of feminist art. This exhibition traces Tabe's activities from her involvement in the group Kyushu-ha to the present day, shedding light on her art from the 1970s and 1980s, which has not been extensively examined. Other works are also revisited, and materials related to her practice are featured as well.
