Mizuno Collection: Depicting People - from Gaho Hashimoto to Tatsuo Takayama

Mizuno Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Gaho Hashimoto, Tatsuo Takayama
Painters have been depicting people from ancient times. For example, in Eastern art such are heroes from history or tales, respected monks, or common people. The image of the human being, traced in paintings, is very diverse. Another notable point in figure painting is the creativity that the painter puts in rendering it.
In this exhibition we will present a wide range of figure paintings and the diversity seen in their depiction. Gaho Hashimoto vividly rendered Chinese poets and Zen monks; famous bijinga painters - Shoen Uemura and Kiyokata Kaburaki, depicted woman's beauty along with seasonal motifs, and the figure paintings of Tatsuo Takayama, a painter in Showa period, have a mysterious sense of appraising the human existence in them.
