Regine Schumann
Regine Schumann was born in 1961 in Goslar, Germany. She studied painting at the Braunschweig University of Art and Design, received the Meister Schullerin qualification from the Lorentzen Derfler in 1989, received a scholarship from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to stay in Japan in 2000, and now lives and works in Cologne. She has exhibited in Europe, the US and Japan, and her work is in the collections of numerous companies and museums, including the Sparcasse Bank, the Rheinische Landesmuseum and the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne.

Schumann uses original acrylic sheets laced with fluorescent pigments, produced through collaborative research with manufacturers, to create works that fall somewhere between paintings and objects. The amount of pigment and the degree to which it reflects and absorbs light are adjusted, and the acrylic sheets are skillfully combined to form the work, as if the painter were layering paint.

Schumann’s first solo exhibition at Mitsukoshi Contemporary Gallery will present a selection of her new work.
