The Culture of Fun— Waka, Kemari, and Musical Instruments

Hayashibara Museum of Art
Finished
In the Heian period (794-1185), various arts and crafts were performed at the imperial court, such as poetry singing, kemari, dancing, and music. Since such arts and crafts required a high level of education and manners, they spread as a prestigious "play" in later periods. This exhibition features materials from the Edo period, including waka poetry materials, decorative paper strips, kemari costumes, paintings, musical instruments, and tools, and aims to introduce the culture of fun and play in Japan.
