100 Year Anniversary of Kiyoshi Yamashita

Kobe Fashion Museum
Finished

Artists

Kiyoshi Yamashita
Kiyoshi Yamashita was born in Asakusa, Tokyo in 1922. At the age of 18, he began his wandering travels and was called a "wandering genius" for his detailed and vividly colored papier-mâché drawings of the landscapes of his memorable travels.

This exhibition features representative pasteboard paintings called "original Japanese landscapes," as well as oil paintings, watercolors, pen drawings, and rare drawings from his childhood painted with his unique technique, including some works on display for the first time. This exhibition reexamines the image of Kiyoshi Yamashita that has been portrayed in dramas and other media and pursues the true image of Kiyoshi Yamashita as an artist, not a fictional character.
