Yasuo Kazuki (1911-74) has left a major mark in the Japanese art of 20th century. He debuted as a painter in 1934 but was forced to participate in the war, after the end of which Kazuki was interned in Siberia. After returning in 1947, he did not leave his hometown and devoted himself to his work as a painter. The main motifs in his post-war works were his experiences during the war and during the internment. He is well known for his "Siberian Series" - series of 57 paintings. In this exhibition we will display around 150 works from each period of Kazuki's career and will attempt to present Yasuo Kazuki not only as the "Siberian painter" but through his overall ouvre.
There will be a change of exhibition between the first and second month. First half: April 5th (Tue) - May 1st (Sun) Second half: May 3rd (Tue, National Holiday) - May 29th (Sun)
