Two frogs, Frog and Toad are united by a deep friendship. This story has been adopted as an elementary school textbook in Japan, and is still loved around the world half a century after the first book in the series was published. American picture book author Arnold Lobel (1933-1987), the creator of the series, loved drawing pictures and creating stories since childhood and dreamed of becoming a picture book author.
Lobel produced as many as 100 picture books before his life of 54 years came to an end. This exhibition, the first full-scale introduction of Lobel's work in Japan, was organized in collaboration with the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, and will feature approximately 30 picture books, including all four books in the "Toad and Frog" series, his most famous work, as well as "Owl" and "Uncle Lobel's Animal Tales," along with approximately 200 rare original drawings, sketches, and sketches. In addition to the four books in the series, about 30 picture books including “Owl at Home" and "Uncle Lobel's Animal Tales" will be introduced with about 200 original drawings, and sketches.
A special screening of "One Day, One Year," an animated film about the daily life of Frog and Toad by Kunio Kato, an animation artist known for his work on "Tsumiki no Ie" will also be held.
