Arnold Lobel (1933-1987) was an American picture book author who created the "Toad and Frog" series. He kept a variety of animals, including cats, frogs, and turtles, and was good at making up stories as a child. Among them, the story of two frogs who are bound by a deep friendship is still loved around the world half a century after its birth and has been used in elementary school textbooks in Japan.
This exhibition, held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of "Gama-kun to Kaeru-kun," is a joint project with the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in the U.S., introducing the world of about 30 picture books, including the series, along with about 200 rare original drawings and sketches.
