The town of Urawa was created as Urawa-juku when the Edo shogunate designated Nakasendo as one of the five highways. In addition, with the abolition of feudal domains in the Meiji era, a part of Musashi Province became Saitama Prefecture, and the prefectural office was located in Urawa. Through these changes, Urawa has changed the shape and layout of its buildings in response to the social conditions of the time and has formed the city as it is today. In a sense, art is an activity that connects history and the present, because the creation of artwork is a process of accumulating new social values on top of people's spiritual traditions. Focusing on the area around the west exit of Urawa Station, this project will install artwork in locations that evoke the past and present of the cityscape.
