Enjoying Nihonga - Masterpieces and High Definition Replication

Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum
Finished
There are many valuable ancient Japanese cultural properties that are usually not available for viewing. In 2007, the "Tsuzuri Project" was launched to both preserve these precious original works of art and to allow as many people as possible to appreciate their beauty. The high-resolution facsimiles, made with the latest digital technology and traditional craftsmanship, provide opportunities for more people to come into contact with Japanese art, leading to a new appreciation of Japanese culture. The National Treasure Uesugi Painting Rakuchu Rakugai-zu was selected as the first phase of the Tsuzuri Project, and for 13 years since the donation of the facsimile in 2008, it has been used as an educational tool to deliver classes to elementary and junior high schools, and more than 2,500 children have experienced its charm and value. In this exhibition, 24 high-resolution facsimiles of the works produced through the Tsuzuri Project will be on display to rediscover the appeal of Japanese painting, which expresses the sensibility of the Japanese people, and to introduce the role that only facsimiles can play in this competition of eminent painters from the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period.
