Tadanori Yokoo
Presenting the latest works by Tadanori Yokoo, who has holed up in his studio and devoted himself to his art during the pandemic. He explains, "These are a different type than my previous works.” They a new stage in his career as a painter. The main theme of this exhibition is “Hanshan and Shide” (Kanzan Jittoku in Japanese), a pair of monks from Tang Dynasty China who lived in the mountains and composed poetry. They were known for their eccentricities, which have been featured in numerous literary and artistic works. What did Yokoo see in these monks who left the mundane world for creative activities?

By showing these new pieces while referring to his previous works, the Yokoo Tadanori Museum of Contemporary Art will examine whether this latest approach, which the artist himself calls "morotai" (blurred style), is in fact the ideal state he has reached after decades of struggle and search with painting.
