Fumio Tachibana "Imprint/Impress – It's Only a Paper Moon"

Contemporary Art Gallery, Art Tower Mito
Finished

Artists

Fumio Tachibana
The first museum solo show for Fumio Tachibana (b. 1968), an artist who works with letters, paper, and books. Tachibana was born into a family that ran a bookbinding business. Inspired by the paper, printed matter, and letters that have been around her since childhood, she creates new forms by gathering and joining these media together. She is also active as a graphic designer, having won the Tokyo TDC Award and the Grand Prix at the International Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno, among other accolades.

Tachibana's expression originates from touching paper, writing letters, and being exposed to printing and books. These influences are connected to her father's bookbinding business and to calligraphy, which she has studied since childhood, as well as to the history and memories of her birthplace of Hiroshima. Together with new works created for this event, this exhibition will be a comprehensive introduction to Tachibana’s creative process over the past quarter of a century.
