Inoue Masayuki "Molding a Form Like Drawing"

Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Masayuki Inoue
This exhibition is the largest solo exhibition to date of Masayuki Inoue (1957- ), who has been at the forefront of Japanese contemporary ceramics, focusing on large-scale figurative works. Inoue has greatly expanded the possibilities of ceramics with his unconventional and free ideas, such as using shards broken off after shaping on a potter's wheel as a part of his works and assembling ceramic parts with bolts to create dynamic works. At the end of this year, Inoue will retire from his position as a professor at Tama Art University, where he has taught for many years, and take a new step forward as an artist. To mark this milestone, this exhibition, which will be held on a large scale throughout the museum, will trace Inoue's 40-year history from the 1980s to the present through approximately 70 works from his early years to his newest work, and introduce the artist's current state.
