Kazumasa Nagai
Kazumasa Nagai (1929- ), one of Japan's leading graphic designers, began his career in the field of graphic design in the early 1950s.
In 1953, he became a member of the Japan Advertising Artists Association (JAAC), and in 1960, he joined Yusaku Kamekura, Ikko Tanaka, and others in founding the Nippon Design Center, where he constantly produced posters, logos, and symbol marks for national projects, companies, and organizations at the forefront of the times. Nagai's posters, crafted with an excellent sense of design, not only serve as advertisements but also have the strength and appeal of works of art. Nagai's posters have won grand prizes at poster competitions in Japan and abroad, and it is no exaggeration to say that he has been a driving force in the world of design even today into his 90s.
In this exhibition, about 140 posters carefully selected from the museum's poster collection donated by the artist will be introduced, ranging from geometric works before he moved on to animal expression to posters advertising his solo exhibitions, museum exhibitions, and public exhibitions, as well as the "Life" series that began in the late 1980s. In particular, the "Life" series, which conveys the diversity and preciousness of life using various animals as its subject, is a representative work that condenses Nagai's view of life and his thoughts on creation.
