Born in 1933, Kikuji Kawada made an impressive debut in the world of photography in 1965 with the publication of "Map," a collection of photographs created from his memories of defeat in World War II. He was also a member of the photography agency VIVO (1959-61), which he formed with Kazutaka Narahara, Eiko Hosoe, Akira Sato, Akira Tanno, and others, and continues to be a leading Japanese photographer at the forefront of photography today.
This exhibition will feature gelatin silver prints from the 1970s to the digital prints Kawada has been showing in recent years.
His photo book "Map" was published in 2005 by Gekisha and Nazraeli Press (USA), and a reprint of the book was published by Akio Nagasawa Publishing in 2014 as a new edition. Last year, MACK (UK) and New York Public Library (US) released "Kikuji Kawada Map, Maquette Edition," Kawada's handmade and restored conceptual model (maquette) of "Map". Visitors will be able to view the collection of photographs of everything from the first edition to the maquette edition.
