Humanimal is a coined word created by Kou Kitamura by combining the words "human" and "animal. Kitamura says that the term humanimal does not simply refer to anthropomorphic animals, but rather to an ideal life form that combines the characteristics of the animal motif with human intelligence, and represents "the essence of the fundamental love that flows through all living things as a common feeling."
Kitamura's expression also shows a variety of transitions in perspective from one work to the next. For example, when he depicts a family of friendly bears, his gaze is full of compassion and warmth; when he depicts a goat dancing on a beautiful moonlit night, his gaze is glossy and bewitching. The paintings are like peeks into a scene from a story, and they leave us guessing what will happen next.
