Artdyne is pleased to present "Profession", an exhibition by Maiko Kobayashi, from July 15th (Fri) through July 31st (Sun). Kobayashi paints creatures (not a specific type of animal), which have languid expressions despite their cute appearance. As if contemplating on their existence, their strange expressions are like a mirror to the viewer's deep psychological part. The black lines with which the creature is framed (sometimes used, sometimes not), as well as the forms that at first glance seem simple, create a clear distinction between the creature and its background, which resonates with the traditional Japanese pictorial approach, yet because of the complexly overlaying hues there is a feeling of a wavering gaze, giving the painting a sense of depth. This was there is a feeling of looking at the in-between of the two and the three-dimensional. In this exhibition, around ten paintings and drawings will be on display and available for purchase.
