As the title of the exhibition suggests, the words "signs of memory" seem to fit both artists' work. Although their motifs are different from each other, both artists try to express the story behind what is depicted in front of their eyes with the presence of the entire work. The work depicted through the memories of each artist will further stimulate the imagination with the addition of the viewers’ memories.
Miho Nishikawa, based on the concept of "visible and invisible things," creates work in oil and watercolor with motifs of people, things, and characters mainly covered with cloth. The work in this exhibition, which she says express the feeling that memories of important things are fading away day by day, evolve from the point of wearing a cloth, which she has been painting for a long time, and depict motifs covered with the veil of fading memories in a somewhat fragile and ambiguous nuance.
Kazuko Yamashita is an artist who puts emphasis on trusting her own senses and intuition and enjoys exploring the possibility of unusual expressions by combining various techniques. While capturing the miraculous movement and brilliance of paint, she creates expressions with positive power. In this exhibition, she will present a group of works that allow viewers to enjoy the texture and materiality of the materials. Set in the landscapes of places she has been involved with (Germany, Turkey, Mexico, etc.). While including motifs of various colors, the work gives the impression of looking beyond the fog, which may be because it suggests the presence of a story happening in the background of the scenes depicted.
