Miwa Komatsu "Transparent Chaos: Spirituality and Mandala"

Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki

Artists

Miwa Komatsu, Taro Okamoto
Miwa Komatsu was born in Nagano Prefecture in 1984. By witnessing the birth and the death of creatures in the abundant nature, she formed her own view on life and death. She began painting motifs inspired by "the invisible creatures", such as messengers of Japanese gods or divine beasts. For Komatsu, who thinks that "art is the medicine to heal the soul", the creative process is same as praying.
Taro Okamoto saw a strong vitality and beauty in the Japanese mindset, which he transmitted into his works, while as Komatsu challenges herself while having a more global mindset, that exceeds geography and religion.
