Artists

Insho Domoto
During his 60 years of activity as an artist, Insho Domoto (1891-1975) was involved in a wide variety of creative activities including sculpture, ceramics, dyeing and weaving, woodworking, and metalworking. In 1966, he established the Domoto Museum of Art (now the Kyoto Prefectural Insho-Domoto Museum of Fine Arts) using his own designs. This year, the 130th anniversary of his birth, a two-part commemorative exhibition is held to look back on Domoto’s creative achievements. Part II focuses on his multi-faceted creative activities beyond the framework of his role as a “Japanese-style painter." It examines his unique sense of beauty in crafts and museum design, from two-dimensional to three-dimensional works and spatial decorations.
