Rediscover Ashikaga's History and Culture! The Seated Dainichi Nyorai Buddha and More

Ashikaga Museum of Art
Finished
Ashikaga, a city of learning and industry where culture has long flourished, has produced many cultural assets that reflect the lives and creativity of the people who have lived here since ancient times. Earrings from the Jomon period (about 3,000 years ago) feature fashionable designs. Haniwa clay figurines from the Kofun period (about 1,450 years ago) sport unique hair styles and elegant costumes. A seated statue of a Dainichi Nyorai Buddha from the Kamakura period (about 820 years ago) gives a sense of tranquility just by gazing at its face. This exhibition introducing the city's history, with a focus on beauty created in daily life and through prayer from the Jomon to Kamakura periods, prsent an opportunity to rediscover the history and culture of Ashikaga.
