Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union started in July 2022. To commemorate this, Czech Centre Tokyo will hold an exhibition reflecting on the life and achievements of Richard Coundehove-Kalergi, a politician and writer who advocated for the Paneuropean Union.
Richard Coundehove-Kalergi (1894-1972) was born in Tokyo as the second son of Heinrich von Coudenhove-Kalergi, an Austro-Hungarian nobleman and diplomat, and Mitsuko Aoyama. He left his mark on history as an advocate of the Pan-Europa Movement. He first presented his idea exactly 100 years ago in 1922.
We will also present the works of Richard's nephew, Michael Coudenhove-Kalergi, who spent his later life in Japan.
