Ryuichi Ohira
Ryuichi Ohira is a sculptor who works with wood. Wood, a highly plastic material that was first used by mankind in the same way as soil, continues to be an indispensable material for our cultural activities, not only in art but also as a basic element in all kinds of daily tools and dwellings. In recent years, Ohira has returned to the inherent characteristics of this material to create "meaningless" sculptures based on what might be called the primordial human impulse of mindlessness and impulse without reason in creation.

The exhibition is dominated by a large wood sculpture, a sort of anthropomorphic pineapple avatar, which Ohira refers to as a Rhizome, a six-finger, a tengu, a jar, a bird based on a drawing Ohira did as a child, an elephant, or an arrow reminiscent of male genitalia, and a modified car, all stacked in a hierarchy. car, and so on, are stacked in a hierarchical manner. The exhibition will also include a gigantic Kusu log speaker with a devilishly beautiful carved human face, a cabinet of Ohira's home-grown creations, and pineapples of various shapes and sizes.
