Shunsen Natori (1886-1960) was a popular print artist between Taisho and Early Showa periods, famous for depicting Kabuki and other stage actors. His works, rich in color and realistic, inherit the tradition of ukiyo-e prints of Edo period, yet show expressions of the new time as well. They can be called the modern yakusha-e. His works depicting actors and beautiful stages of the Kabuki theater were also well appreciated by the theater's patrons. In this exhibition we will display all 49 yakusha-e prints by Natori from our museum's collection.
*There will be a change of exhibition between the first and second month. All of Shunsen Natori's works will be on display during the whole exhibition period. First half: April 9th (Sat) - April 24th (Sun) Second half: April 25th (Tue) - May 15th (Sun)
