Taro Okamoto (1911-1996), known for his "Tower of the Sun," the theme pavilion for the 1970 Japan World Exposition, is an artist who continues to fascinate people of all ages today. A major retrospective of his artistic life will be held this year.

In 1929, Taro Okamoto went to France, where he established his identity as a painter while being influenced by abstract expression. After returning to Japan, he advocated "contrapuntalism," which became the core of his artistic philosophy, and developed not only his production but also his cultural and artistic theories in such books as "Art Today" and "Japanese Tradition." Okamoto's work that lives in daily lives, such as his huge sculptures and murals in public spaces, including the Tower of the Sun, symbolizes his belief that "art belongs to the masses," and for this reason, even after his death, they continue to attract a large number of people.

This exhibition traces the life of Taro Okamoto, covering his major works and introducing some of his later works that have not received much attention until now.
