Kodomo no Tomo" is a monthly magazine that has produced many picture books loved by generations since its inception in 1956 and has involved leading artists in various artistic fields in the creation of picture books in an effort to produce picture books that provide children with high-quality art experiences. The artists experimented with thoughtful methods and possibilities, using picture book creation as an important forum for expression. From there, some authors, such as Yuriko Yamawaki of "Guri to Gura" (Guri and Gura), developed picture books as the main stage of their activities.
This exhibition features many of the original illustrations of classic picture books that are indispensable to "Kodomo no Tomo". These works will tell us the origin and history of picture books, which today have been elevated to a field of art and are loved not only by children but also by adults. This exhibition will also provide an excellent opportunity to appreciate the depth of the world of picture books through the artistic richness of the original works of art that the artists put their hearts and souls into.
In addition, "Sora-iro no tane" (Yuriko Yamawaki), a work inspired by Millet's "The Sower," which is in the museum's collection, will be on special display at this exhibition.
