The World of Religious Art: From the Collection of Denchu Hirakushi

Kodaira Hirakushi Denchu Art Museum
Finished
Although Denchu Hirakushi established a new style of woodcarving expression by incorporating Western carving techniques, he studied woodcarving under the Buddhist sculptor Koun Takamura when he was young, and continued to have an interest in Buddhist statues and statues of gods.

This exhibition introduces Hirakushi's collection of art objects related to religion. On display will be Enku's Buddhist sculptures, which he continued to carve while traveling throughout Japan during the Edo period, as well as plastic sculptures believed to have been introduced to Horyuji Temple.

During the exhibition period, some of the exhibits will be changed, so that visitors can see different works in the first and second periods.
