Western Kings on Horseback Screens and Matsuura Byobu Screens

The Museum Yamatobunkakan
Finished
In the 16th century, Spain and Portugal extended their sea routes to Japan in the Far East for the purpose of trade and propagation of Christianity. Not only was it the beginning of the Age of Exploration but also the start of interaction between European and Japanese art. The exhibition focuses on Western-style paintings that were created in Japan based on this interaction. Please enjoy this exhibition of art from Japan and Europe-two styles of art that are mutually exotic.
