Yohen Tenmoku

Fujita Museum
Finished
Tenmoku bowls were used in Zen temples during the Southern Song dynasty in China. As Zen monk's calligraphy, both are decorated with layers of the spiritual realm in jet-black color. Tenmoku tea bowls became popular in Japan during the Muromachi period (1333-1573), and the most known among them is Yohen, with a recognizable blue pattern. This exhibition features Yohen Tenmoku tea bowls and the calligraphy of Zen monks of the same period.
