Yuki Yamamoto was born in Obihiro, Hokkaido in 1981, and graduated from the Graduate School of Education, Hokkaido University of Education in 2007 with a major in art education (western painting). Yamamoto is currently based in Sapporo.
Yamamoto's paintings depict a complex interplay of colored and hollowed-out circles in multilayered transparent layers several millimeters thick. The actual depth perceived by the layers and the illusory depth created by the colors and forms is intermingled in the painting, bringing out the deep color space and the material charm of the painting itself. In addition, by hiding several patterns of arrangement within the picture plane, he questions the indeterminacy of seeing itself and the way things work from multiple angles by replacing them with abstraction. In recent years, Yamamoto has collaborated with programmers to develop dedicated PC applications and has also introduced a random number drawing system into some of his work.
Yamamoto says that this has given him a sense of being suspended in his own existence, which is inherent in his work, and that the relationship between the circles and the relationship between himself and his works have become more interesting. This exhibition will feature 12 new works.
