Yurika Kinoshita
Yurika Kinoshita grew up on a flower farm in Saga and has always been surrounded by flowers and plants since her childhood. Throughout her career, she has used flowers and plants as motifs in her work as if sketching her childhood memories. Influenced by abstract expressionism, Kinoshita's works move back and forth between the past and present through the visual memories that become hazy as she lives day by day.

In the past, Kinoshita has focused on compositions with no center, especially depicting plants growing in dense clusters on canvas from a bird's eye viewpoint.

In this exhibition, Kinoshita paints the subject from a closer perspective, creating a picture plane with an awareness of the margins.

For the artist, flowers and plants are an opportunity to interact with her own emotions, and the works created in this way consistently express her memories of the momentary changes and shocks she experienced when he saw them.

Kinoshita works in a style in which the support is placed on the floor and painted with her bare hands using special paint. Painting by hand not only allows her to express the free and organic movement of plants, but it is also an extension of her physical senses, a necessary dialogue in bringing the visual image to the canvas. While allowing for the free behavior of the liquid characteristic of paint, she holds the reins of its fluidity and keeps it under control. The work process is analogous to the process of consciously pulling together fragments of vague memories that are otherwise atomized.

The work in this exhibition are from the same series as the artwork used for the T-shirt design in the "Yurika Kinoshita × Tigora" project, a collaboration with the Alpen Group sports brand Tigora. The vitality of the flowers and plants that Kinoshita deforms and depicts is similar to the dynamism of sports.

In this exhibition, Kinoshita will present about 20 new paintings along with the collaboration items sold at 30 Alpen Group stores and e-commerce sites nationwide.
